SEO Glossary of Most Used Terms

Here you can find the most used terms in SEO and web marketing. I wanted to try to create an SEO dictionary that is a glossary with specific terms on SEO and digital marketing.

For those who look for the first time in the world of blogging and online marketing, it is difficult to find one’s way among all the technical words that are taken continuously up in causes in blogs like this.

So here’s the list of SEO Glossary of Most Used Terms

Accelerated Mobile Pages:

AMP is an online publishing format developed by Google as a competitor to Facebook’s Instant Articles. It is similar to HTML and is optimized for mobile web browsing. Using unique code, AMP-HTML is intended to help webpages load rapidly when clicked in the Google search results pages, though results have varied.

Algorithm:

An algorithm (pronounced AL-go-rith-um) is a procedure or formula for solving a problem, based on conducting a sequence of specified actions. A computer program can be viewed as an elaborate algorithm. In mathematics and computer science, an algorithm usually means a small procedure that solves a recurrent problem.

It determines the rules that define the positioning of a page within the search results. There are a lot of Algorithms in Google’s.

Anchor text:

Anchor text is the clickable text in a hyperlink. SEO best practices dictate that anchor text is relevant to the page you’re linking to, rather than generic version. The blue, underlined anchor text is the most common as it is the web standard, although it is possible to change the color and underlining through HTML code.

Alt attribute:

The alt attribute is the HTML attribute used in HTML and XHTML documents to specify alternative text that is to be rendered when the element to which it is applied cannot be rendered.

Backlink :

A backlink for a given web resource is a link from some other website to that web resource. A web resource may be a website, web page, or web directory. Broken Link :

A broken backlink is an incoming link pointing to an “error 404 page of a target website. In the same way you can find your competitors’ broken pages that have a lot of backlinks and use it for your broken link building strategy.

CDN :

Content Delivery Network; a network of connected servers that allow faster transmission of content to users located in geographic areas far from the data center.

SSL Certificate:

SSL. Stands for “Secure Sockets Layer.” SSL is a secure protocol developed for sending information securely over the Internet. Many websites use SSL for secure areas of their sites, such as user account pages and online checkout. Usually, when you are asked to “log in” on a website, the resulting page is secured by SSL.

CMS :

Content Management System; is a program that allows you to create websites without particular coding or programming knowledge. WordPress is a CMS and in my opinion, it is the best.

Structured Data:

Structured data is coded using in-page markup on the page that the information applies to. The structured data on the page should describe the content of that page. You should not create blank or empty pages just to hold structured data; nor should you add structured data about information that is not visible to the user, even if the information is accurate. Dofollow Backlink:

Dofollow backlinks allow Google or whatever search engine is being used, to follow them and reach your website. Basically, these are links that will pass on the SEO benefits of the website where it is built from the hyperlinked website. This will improve its ranking position significantly in search engines.

Nofollow Backlink:

What is a nofollow backlink? Nofollow backlink does not pass the authority because the tag rel=” nofollow” in the HTML code of the website tells crawlers not to follow these backlinks. Google does not transfer the authority or anchor text across nofollow links.

Error 404:

The HTTP 404, 404 Not Found, 404, Page Not Found, or Server Not Found error message is a Hypertext Transfer Protocol standard response code, in computer network communications, to indicate that the browser was able to communicate with a given server, but the server could not find what was requested.

User Experience:

User experience is a person’s emotions and attitudes about using a particular product, system or service. It includes the practical, experiential, affective, meaningful and valuable aspects of human-computer interaction and product ownership.

Featured snippet:

A featured snippet is a summary of an answer to a user’s query, which is displayed on top of Google search results. It’s extracted from a webpage and includes the page’s title and URL.

.Htaccess File:

htaccess is a configuration file for use on web servers running the Apache Web Server software. htaccess files can be used to alter the configuration of the Apache Web Server software to enable/disable additional functionality and features that the Apache Web Server software has to offer.

H1, h2, h3 … h6 :

HTML tags that identify the headings, ie titles, and subtitles. Their number indicates a hierarchical level: h1 is the highest, h2 immediately below and so on up to h6, which is the lowest.

Website Hosting :

A web host, or web hosting service provider, is a business that provides the technologies and services needed for the website or webpage to be viewed on the Internet. Websites are hosted or stored, on special computers called servers. The use of FTP lets you upload files from your local computer to your web server.

Indexing :

Indexing is a process where our server crawls through your website, fetches every page that it can find and stores a list of keywords that are found on your site in our database. These keywords are then used to find pages on your site when a user performs search operations.

Search intent :

Search intent, sometimes also known as keyword intent, is the ultimate goal of the person using a search engine. Since people look for, process, and use search results differently based on their ultimate goal, understanding and optimizing for search intent is hugely important for SEO (and digital marketing in general).

Internal Linking :

An internal link is a type of hyperlink on a webpage to another page or resource, such as an image or document, on the same website or domain. Hyperlinks are considered either “external” or “internal” depending on their target or destination.

The Knowledge Graph is a knowledge base used by Google and its services to enhance its search engine’s results with information gathered from a variety of sources. The information is presented to users in an infobox next to the search results.

Link juice:

Link juice is the term used in the SEO world to refer to the value or equity passed from one page or site to another. This value is passed through hyperlinks. Search engines see links as votes by other websites that your page is valuable and worth promoting.

Local SEO:

Local SEO (Local Search Engine Optimization), sometimes referred to as local search engine marketing, is an incredibly effective way to market your local business online, as it helps businesses promote their products and services to local customers at the exact time they’re looking for them online.

Markup Schema:

Schema markup, also known as structured data, is the language of search engines, using a unique semantic vocabulary. It is code used to more clearly provide information to search engines in order to understand your content.

The meta description tag in HTML is the 160 character snippet used to summarize a web page’s content. Search engines sometimes use these snippets in search results to let visitors know what a page is about before they click on it.

Niche:

A niche market is the subset of the market on which a specific product is focused. The market niche defines the product features aimed at satisfying specific market needs, as well as the price range, production quality and the demographics that it is intended to target. It is also a small market segment.

Website Optimization:

Search engine optimization (SEO), or website optimization, is the process of making changes to your website so that it will appear higher in search engine results pages (SERPS). … The more relevance the search engines determine your website has for a given search, the higher the website will rank.

Page Rank:

PageRank is an algorithm used by Google Search to rank web pages in their search engine results. PageRank was named after Larry Page, one of the founders of Google. PageRank is a way of measuring the importance of website pages.

Redirect 301:

The HTTP response status code 301 Moved Permanently is used for permanent URL redirection, meaning current links or records using the URL that the response is received for should be updated. The new URL should be provided in the Location field included with the response.

Off-Page SEO:

“Off-page SEO” (also called “off-site SEO”) refers to actions taken outside of your own website to impact your rankings within search engine results pages (SERPs).

On-Page SEO:

On-page SEO is the practice of optimizing individual web pages in order to rank higher and earn more relevant traffic in search engines. On-page refers to both the content and HTML source code of a page that can be optimized, as opposed to off-page SEO which refers to links and other external signals.

On-Site SEO:

An area of ​​SEO that deals with all the general site settings, which allow better speed, performance, and security, as well as providing the basis for optimizing other more specific aspects as well.

SERP:

Search Engine Result Page (search engine results page); the page showing the list of results obtained by performing a search in a search engine.

Canonical URL:

A canonical link element is an HTML element that helps webmasters prevent duplicate content issues in search engine optimization by specifying the “canonical” or “preferred” version of a web page. It is described in RFC 6596, which went life in April 2012.
